Toast is the ultimate nostalgia trip through everything edible in 1960’s Britain.

SJ Clarkson, who is best known for directing Life on Mars and most recently Heroes, is directing from a script by Billy Elliot scribe Lee Hall.
Supporting cast include Victoria Hamilton as Mum, Matthew McNulty (Control, Looking for Eric) as Josh, Ben Aldridge (Channel 4’s The Devil’s Whore, BBC’s Lark Rise to Candleford) as Stuart, and newcomer Oscar Kennedy as Young Nigel.
The book Toast has so far sold a quarter of a million copies. It was also the winner of six literary awards, including the National Book Awards British Biography of the Year.
Location & Resources
Filming for the production took place on location throughout Birmingham and the West Midlands, including the Black Country Museum in Dudley, and The Barber Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Birmingham.
