SUZIE NORTON APPOINTED AS SCREEN WM'S NEW CEO
Screen WM, the region’s agency for film, screen and digital media, have appointed Suzie Norton as their new CEO. Suzie leaves her role as the successful founding Director of Film Birmingham to take up the role as the region’s screen media leader.
At Film Birmingham she created the city’s first Film Charter and established a long awaited locations service to support media producers to set their projects in the city, resulting in a significant increase in filming in Birmingham. In partnership with Screen WM this locations service has created a unified city-region offer that producers speak extremely highly of as they choose from a vast range of regional locations - from stately homes set in rural countryside to contemporary architecture in our cities.
Suzie has also led the proposal to establish an international digital film event for Birmingham and the Region in 2008 that has received support from Screen WM, AWM, ACEWM, BCC, Business Link WM, Marketing Birmingham, DCMS and UKFC.
Originally from Worcestershire, Suzie knows the region very well, along with the wide range of media talent that she and the agency will support, develop, promote and invest in. Her media career began as GMTV’s political correspondent in Westminster. Four years ago she returned to her roots in the West Midlands to take up the post of senior broadcast journalist at BBC Birmingham, before securing her Film Birmingham Directorship.
These professional experiences stand Suzie in good stead as she leads Screen WM from September 10th in taking the region’s media sector to greater levels of success and recognition.
Suzie said: “I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to take the West Midlands’ screen industries to their next level of growth. As Screen WM’s new CEO I intend to build on our recent successes to ensure a sustainable, thriving screen media sector across the region.
I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with Film Birmingham to deliver a first-rate city-region locations service and to working with the region’s key agencies to deliver an ambitious new Digital Film Event in 2008.
This is an incredibly exciting time for film, TV and digital media with many new national and international opportunities arising for the West Midlands to tap into. I want to ensure that we are in the strongest possible position to benefit from this changing media landscape”
Jonnie Turpie, Screen WM Chairman said:
“This is a wonderful appointment for an agency that is delivering growing success from our region’s talented individuals, producers and companies. Suzie takes the reigns at a time of unprecedented growth of the film and digital media industries across the city region. From the youngest child to the more mature member of our community we all use and rely on media to participate in modern society.
Suzie and Screen WM will ensure that the skills and opportunities to participate and contribute are available and accessible to all members of the community.
With internationally distributed feature films, high rating, award winning TV programming and innovative interactive content Suzie has a strong foundation to take us into the premier league of digital media, cultural and economic achievement locally, nationally and internationally.”
