SCREEN ADAPTATION - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS


What makes a successful adaptation? Books, short stories and even graphic novels have provided precious source material for the very best in television and film.  But how do writers transform material from one medium to another?

Script, in collaboration with Tindal Street Press and Red Room Films, is offering you the opportunity to develop the skills required for a successful screen adaptation.  You will work with professional screenwriters to expand on the experience you have already gained from the production or publication of your work.

12 writers will be selected for the initial phase of the project, which will comprise of a Treatment Weekend*, providing the basic tools with which to prepare an 8-10 page treatment.  Following submission of these treatments, 5 writers will be selected for the second phase and offered one-to-one support in preparing for Lottery Script Grants from Screen WM.  Successful applicants will then be teamed up with a mentor to assist in the process of writing their screenplay.
*The Treatment weekend will be offered at a subsidised rate of £60

How to Apply:

Writers must submit the following by Friday 11th April to "Script: Screen Adaptation”, Unit 107 The Greenhouse, The Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Birmingham, B9 4AA:

· A writing CV (to include details of work previously published or produced);
· 5 pages of dialogue from a previous piece of work;
· One side of A4 outlining:
            - your reasons for wanting to adapt for the screen;
            - a summary of the piece of work you would like to adapt;
            - why this particular piece of work would be suitable for adaptation

Terms and Conditions:
· Writers must live, work or study in the West Midlands;
· Entries must not be handwritten;
· Writers must have had at least one piece of work produced or published;
· Allowable material for adaptation is as follows:
            - Tindal Street Press novels from an approved list (see www.scriptonline.net/screen.html);
            - Any prose (novels/short stories) applicants have written themselves;
 - Any prose (novels/short stories) that is out of copyright i.e. over 70 years after the death of the author
· Final approval of eligible source material will lie with Script
