FLIP FESTIVAL 2007 PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED

The Flip International Animation Festival programme has now been finalized and announced on the festival website- www.flipfestival.co.uk. The animation festival which runs between 1st – 3rd November is now in its 4th year and the programme of events certainly reflects how established it has become. The annual festival is held at Light House, Wolverhampton.

Highlights include:  Drawing in the Digital academic symposium; retrospective screenings and Q&A sessions of top people in the industry such as Barry Purves, Erica Russell and Clive Walley; previews of Channel 4’s Animate films and YouTube star Lasse Gjertsen in conversation about his online success. There’s a strong stop motion theme running through the Saturday programme,  Nick Roberson, responsible for puppets from a host of high profile films and TV, including ‘Mars Attacks’, Tim Burton’s ‘A Corpse Bride’, and ‘Pingu’ will be giving festival goers a rare treat, to see the models in ‘the flesh’.

The call for open submissions earlier in the year reaped films from 11 countries and since the festival started Flip has made friends with festivals in Hungary, schools in New York and Denmark. The open shorts competition is fierce this year with entries such as the acclaimed ‘The Animal Book’ from Second Home Productions and Slinky Pictures, ‘The Wrong Trainers’ both of which are picking up awards at numerous festivals.

Flip is dedicated to showcasing the best in international animation talent from people of all ages. As part of the festival ‘Flip – Side’, Young people’s animation features specially selected films made by young people from the West Midlands and further afield and inspirational success stories from those involved.

Several animation themed exhibitions have been specially curated. ‘Motor Functions’ kinetic sculptures by Steve Hutton; ‘Flag Metamorphoses’ a world wide project surrounding flags; and finally ‘Falling’ by Neeta Madahar will be on show at Wolverhampton Art Gallery during the festival.

Tickets for the festival are now on sale. You can purchase via the Flip website: www.flipfestival.co.uk, or by calling the Box Office on 01902 716055.  The full festival guide can be viewed and downloaded at the website.
