First Light Movies, the UK’s initiative for young filmmakers, is delighted to be joining forces and sharing expertise with the award-winning Cinemagic children’s film festival to present the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 competition for the second year running.
Established in 1989, Cinemagic is an international Belfast-based film festival for young people. The festival has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in children’s programming and is currently the largest children’s film festival in the UK. Activities take place throughout the city from 16 November until 2 December 2007.
As well as international film screenings and big movie premieres, Cinemagic will provide special guests, discussions, masterclasses in all aspects of filmmaking and a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their talents in the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 competition, in association with First Light Movies.
Building on the incredible success of last year’s competition, Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 is searching for imaginative and original films, of any genre, made by budding young filmmakers aged 25 and under from the UK and Ireland. The competition will be split into three different age categories; films made be under 15’s, films made by 15 to17-year-olds and films made by 18 to 25-year-olds.
First Light Movies and Cinemagic are dedicated to supporting and encouraging young filmmakers of all ages, background and abilities. Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 is a prestigious competition judged by a panel of experienced film industry professionals and being nominated is an enormous achievement for the young filmmakers.
Pip Eldridge, First Light Movies’ CEO, “ We’re thrilled to be part of such an important children’s film festival in Northern Ireland. It’s wonderful to able to create opportunities for young people to screen their films. It is encouraging to know that there are so many talented young people out there, in the UK, who are passionate about films and, of course, we are eager to help them develop their ideas and stories however we can.“
The winning entries in the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2007 competition will be screened at the Cinemagic World Screen Festival for Young People in December 2007, on First Light Movies website (www.firstlightmovies.com) and both organisations will champion the winning films and enter them in other film competitions throughout the world.
