FILM AND TV COMPANIES WANTED TO DEVELOP NEW TALENT

Film London is looking for up to 10 host companies to participate in the new round of the Company Placement Scheme, a scheme which aims to support, assist and improve recruitment and mentoring across the sector and target newcomers to the industry.

The scheme aims to attract applicants from backgrounds that reflect the diversity of London’s population, and is particularly keen to support companies who want to recruit candidates from communities currently under represented in the film and media industries.

This is the third round of the scheme which is open to companies working in the Film, TV and Moving Image sector. Now in its third year, Film London is expanding the scheme to companies involved in Animation, Sales, Exhibition and Distribution.

The selected companies will receive support to provide paid work placements for London-based new starters in the film and TV industries. This includes up to 75% of the total gross costs of the work placement for up to six months, a professional HR consultant mentor who supports the mentors as well as further recruitment advice and support.

The scheme has enjoyed significant success with over 50% of participants gaining permanent positions within the industry. Previous companies involved in the scheme include Diverse TV; Headline Pictures Ltd and Tigerlily.

Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London said:
“Building on the success of last year’s programme, we are delighted that even more businesses and individuals will have the opportunity to participate in the 2007 Company Placement Scheme, helping to ensure that London’s workforce remains at the forefront of the industry.

“The scheme provides significant benefits to both companies and trainees, including an innovative approach to training and a great introduction to working in film or TV.”

Mark Shivas, Chairman Headline Pictures Ltd said:
“Film London’s Company Placement Scheme has been a great experience for us. We are currently considering offering our trainee a permanent position at the end of the scheme.”

Matt Paice, Diverse TV said:
“Diverse were delighted to take part in the CPS. Our trainee worked at the heart of our company and made a real contribution to our business. The CPS is a great way to bring new entrants into this fiercely competitive industry”.

Kate Lawrence, No.9 Films said:
“Film London’s Company Placement scheme is a unique opportunity for Film and TV companies to source interns from varied backgrounds looking to break into the industry and be fairly paid for their efforts. It’s a mutually beneficial experience as the more the interns gain knowledge and insight from their mentors the more the companies gain a dynamic and loyal employee. We very much hope to have the opportunity to participate again”.

Robin Gutch, Warp X said:
“Film London’s CPS scheme could not have come at a better time for Warp X, as it enabled us to take on a trainee development assistant just when the development team was being really stretched. Being supported to do a wide trawl of people wanting to break into a very competitive part of the industry, and then being able to offer someone a 6 month placement at relatively little cost to the company, was great for us and for the selected person. I’m delighted to say that she has now been offered a full time position in the Warp X development team so everyone has benefited from the initiative. Thanks Film London!”
