Film Street is in the running for a BAFTA
Film Street, the amazing new interactive website that engages children with film in a fun and exciting way, has been nominated for this year’s British Academy Children’s Film and Television Awards.
www.filmstreet.co.uk is short listed in the ‘Learning Primary’ category. The site is designed to unlock primary-aged children’s imaginations and introduce them to the magical world of film through a unique and fun journey. Film Street is packed full of exciting activities, movie-making ideas, the latest trailers from Hollywood, downloadable lesson plans mapped to the curriculum and resources for parents encouraging them to watch and make films with their families.
When children log on to Film Street they choose a friendly character who’ll help them explore the colourful street and discover how to develop a script or story idea, dress their characters, edit, animate and use special effects through online games and activities. Film Street’s online cinema previews the latest releases and children’s films from around the world. Once children themselves have gained confidence and learnt filmmaking techniques from the site, they can submit their films to the cinema for broadcast around the world.
Film Street was commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and was developed by First Light Movies, the UK young people’s filmmaking initiative, in partnership with CBBC, the British Film Institute, the UK Film Council and Creative Partnerships.
This year’s British Academy Children’s Film and Television Awards in association with Electronic Arts will be announced at the ceremony on Sunday 26 November 2006 at the London Hilton.
