Al Gore’s television network, Current TV, which launched in America on August 1st, 2005, is the first national network created by, for and with an 18-34 year-old audience. The network shows young adults what's going on in their world, in their voice. Current is also the first network in history whose programming is supplied in part by the very audience who watches it.

It has developed the television industry's leading model of "viewer created content" (VC2), which comprises roughly one-third of Current's on-air broadcast, and allows the audience to submit short-form, nonfiction video "pods. Its award-winning programming ranges from the current trends in technology, fashion, music and videogames, to pressing issues such as the environment, relationships, parenting, finance, and politics. Current is available in 30 million U.S. Homes and will be launching in the UK and Ireland in March.

They want utterly compelling (to 18-34 year olds) shorts that offer a glimpse into a person place or thing that is off the radar... Either macro stories (eastern European immigration) made micro (a friend’s housekeeper tells her story of fleeing war-torn Bosnia), or just small insights into interesting people/activities (see below links for best example of the scope of our programming). They offer full creative freedom to make that film you’ve wanted to for a while, but had no home and exposure (8+mil homes in the UK and if it crosses over, 30+mil in the US). The budgets are lower then normal for network television, and dependent on the idea. A typical agreement would start with $1000 for the first film, $1500 for the second, $2000 for the third and all others therein. They would ideally want to own all rights.

If this sounds like something you may be interested in, Adam Warmington, Producer at the channel, would like to hear your pitches (ideally 6-10 from each member). He is ready and able to start commissioning ASAP and would love to have some of the Producers’ Forum members on-board.

Please email your pitches to Adam Warmington.
