Birmingham is home to a strong network of award wining film and
TV production companies, making a diverse range of output from
drama and comedy to factual documentaries and religious
programmes.
Maverick Television started the new year with a Channel 4
Creative City Award. The award, recognises consistent, innovative,
creative ad business acumen and highlights the companies continued
success in hi quality popular programme making.
Dreamfinder productions, established in 2003 by BAFTA award
winning television and film producer Natasha Carlish. During its
first three years, Dreamfinder produced and financed BAFTA awards
winning short film Brown Paper Bag. Since then they have produced
26 short films for the Brumiewood Project. Two of the films have
been nominated for RTS awards with SOULboy by Sarah Walker
triumphing in 2004.
This year's BAFTAs feature Birmingham based talent in the form
of Roger Shannon. Shannon was executive producer for the comedy
FESTIVAL which has been nominated for Best Film and best new
director the film has already won two Scottish BAFTAs, Best Script
award at Dinard.
Channel Fours Ideas Factory has gone from strength to strength
this year with projects such as 'Creative Class' and 'Creative
Festival' after celebrating a win at last years BAFTAs by its
editor Dan Jones.
