Holly Elson is shortlisted for Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap documentary scheme
Filmmaker Holly Elson of Stratford-upon-Avon based indie Honest Injun Films has beaten tough competition from across the UK to become one of the 12 shortlisted candidates for Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap documentary scheme.
Now in its 7th year, Bridging the Gap is focused on creating imaginative and innovative short films that push the boundaries of traditional documentary. The scheme provides a structured and supportive training environment in which the 12 candidates develop their ideas through a series of intensive weekend workshops run by internationally renowned mentors. Over the course of three months the filmmakers hone their projects in preparation for the all important pitch to an expert panel who will commission the final seven projects.
Holly’s film, entitled Letter to my Father, is a personal project about a chance discovery that transformed her family.
“It’s a film that I’ve wanted to make for a while so when I heard that this year’s Bridging the Gap was on the theme of Surprise it seemed like the perfect opportunity. To be given the chance to develop the project with the unique training and support of SDI is brilliant. Bridging the Gap has produced some excellent films that have gone on to show at international festivals so it gives me the chance to learn from the best and hopefully get the funding I need to make the film.”
