JAZZ AND FILM MEET AT THE ELECTRIC CINEMA  FOR THE BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL'S ELECTRIC SESSIONS - SUPPORTED BY URBAN FUSION

 

The city centre focus for this year’s Starbucks Birmingham International Jazz Festival will be the Electric Cinema, 47-49 Station Street, Birmingham, B5 4DY (0121 643 7879, info@theelectric.co.uk).

During the festival the cinema will be the venue for the high-profile ELECTRIC SESSIONS , starting with a sensational double header starring Diz Watson, Al Copley, Zoot Money and the Lazy Jumpers.

Other evening concerts include exciting young Filipina singer Mishka Adams, highly original Israeli saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and an evening guaranteed to provide the best of British jazz, the Marston’s Pedigree British Jazz Awards Pollwinners Concert.

In addition the Electric Cinema will be hosting any number of daytime events: jazz films range from the ever-popular Jazz on a Summer’s Day to the acclaimed new documentary on controversial saxophonist Albert Ayler. While a programme of concerts and workshops will feature performances by the Kiehl’s Kids Big Band and the Starbucks Young Musicians. And, of course, the Electric Cinema will have festival programmes and up-to-date information on the festival available throughout the day.

THE ELECTRIC SESSIONS take place every evening except Sunday 9th July. The Electric is an authentic bijou cinema with seating for only 108. So early booking is advisable. The wonderful grand piano is supplied by Yamaha
