BIRMINGHAM FEATURE'S SEATTLE SUCCESS

John Bradburn's digital feature Kyle, shot entirely in Birmingham for £1,500, has just screened at The Seattle International Film Festival. The North American Premiere was attended by the director who discussed his working methods in two Q&A sessions with audiences.

Of particular interest was the film's use of non professional actors and improviation to create the films fractured narrative. Kyle follows two characters over three days, their motives and relationship only fleetingly and slowly revealed. A young man arrives in a new city and lives in an almost empty flat. He works on a market stall and starts to make friends with a young woman. In the parralell narrative a single mother works long shifts in a supermarket desperate for money, eventually being offered a difficult proposal from her manager.

Kyle's screening has generated further interest from other festivals in Europe and America. John Bradburn is shooting his next digital feature in Birmingham this summer.
